Enabling wol on a pfsense machine
-
hi all, due to power lost and NUTS issue, sometimes our pfsense machine will not power up itself when the line power comes back. And therefore we wish to be able to wake up the pfsense machine using magic packets. I have searched a long time on the internet on how to do that on a machine running pfsense, but was not able to find a solution. Namely I understand that beside enabling wol in BIOS, I would also need to enable wol for the nic within the software config.
I have found a page that shows how to do it with a FreeBSD installation, but pfsense's folder structure seems a bit different. So I am at a loss on finding the nic drivers etc.
Could someone advise me if it is even doable for a pfsense machine. Thanks -
The only time I've tested that nothing special was required from pfSense beyond shuting it down normally. As long as WoL is enabled in the BIOS the machine will start and boot when sent a magic packet from another pfSense install.

thanks for the quick reply Steve. I will give it a test as soon as other users are left for the day.
