I have a Netgate appliance that as you know comes with a self signed cert. we log in with https://ip:port to get to pf sense.

One thing I have not understood with any self signed cert, is the data still encrypted from my browser on my LAN to the pfsense?

@ne_77 Yes, it is encrypted. What the self-signed certificate is not is issued by a 3rd party Certificate Authority like GoDaddy, Comodo, etc.

@ne_77 yes if your using ssl for your connection, then it is encrypted be it a self signed or any other cert. The only thing with self signed is your browser will prob bark at you about it.

            Yes ...

Self signed is "Just not verified by an external trusted Root CA".
Only affects the "Trust part" , not the crypt part
