Automatic update cron

Hello,

is it possible to create a automatic update cron (security fixes)?
I'll use pfsense at home and I don't want to check manually the availibility of new version.

Anything is possible in software.

My recommendation here for you would be NOT to do this, as sometimes updates fail, so it is better for you to do it
yourself and deal with the aftermath if needed.

As always, make sure you have config backups and system/disk backups before upgrading.

Possible? Yes.

Recommended? No.

On the one hand, it could lead to a more secure environment because it would update automatically. On the other, the process is not without flaws and valid objections based on security/authority of the upgrade and potential outage concerns.

Even if it were an opt-in feature, we'd likely see a chorus of complaints. Automating that sort of task is risky at best.
