I have a hard time getting rid of Squid....

      This is the package list.

There are still Squid menus and leftovers in the filesystem.

How to get rid of those?

Easiest way is to install it an uninstall it again so it runs the package removal script.

Otherwise you can manually remove the config entries if that doesn't work.

A couple of times I had left a widget for the package I uninstalled, had to reinstall, remove the widget then uninstall.
Another time I had to remove all entries from the config and reupload it.

@jarhead I had to DL the config and manually edit it and restore the config.

Pretty annoying if you ask me.... a little messy.

When you install or uninstall a pfSense package the package includes a script that is run to add or remove any additional files required and the config items that include he menu entries and service listing. So re-installing and uninstalling again should remove those.

Even after installing and uninstalling again?

You can check the pkg log in /conf. Squid has a bunch of parts which makes it more susceptible to issues if part of the script fails for any reason. Failing twice would be unusual though.
