I'm retiring my homebuilt computer and upgrading to a 4100 that's supposed to be here tomorrow! (YAY)

I understand there will be new software installed when it gets here. Is it possible to set up the new machine with a backup of my current computer?

Or, will I be starting from scratch? If so, is there a way to print out all of the current settings so I can just go down a list?

      Bart

@barth Backup your config, import into the 4100. Match the ports on the config to the new ports on the 4100. https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/netgate-4100/io-ports.html

            Well, that didn't work.

When I tried to assign the ports on the 4100, all I could see in the pull down lists were the old ports. ie: the old machine had igb ports while the 4100 uses igc ports. The configuration only lets you choose from pull down ports, it will not let you enter what you want. So I am doing a fresh install.

@barth Can't say I've tried that in a long while but AFAIK it should show the available interfaces.

Also note you can restore parts of the configuration. However that says to use the same config version.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

Hmm, yeah that should definitely work.

You were restoring a 2.6 config into 22.05?
