I am being told I need to pay a monthly fee for the ONT and the router/Wi-Fi I know I do not need. I am betting most people here with fiber only has the ISP ONT and do not lease networking equipment. Curious to know if anyone was required to lease the ONT. It seems like that is a necessary piece of equipment to get TCP/IP and should be a part of the service charges.

      Thanks

Depends what the fiber is. If it xPON you need some sort of converter there.

Doesn't surprise me at all that your ISP charges you for it though. Most ISPs will charge you extra for whatever they can get away with. 😉

my isp uses PON, they would not give me the type of sfp i needed to plug in straight to pfsense.
