Hiro PCIe nic card…any way to get it to work?
-
I'm repurposing an "old" desktop computer to be my firewall, and for a second NIC, I got a Hiro H50304 PCIe gigabit card.
Windows loves it, and despite it only listing compatibility with Win 8 & 10 on the box, so do 3 different Linux distros. But I'm having a quirky problem getting it to work with PFSense.
It will detect it, read the MAC address from it, and register it as interface "re0"
It will even let me configure the IP settings for it (running it as LAN side). But it shows as DOWN with the status of "No carrier", and no connection light on at the switch where it's plugged in to as well as the light on the card itself.
Ironically, it does show as UP during boot, and the connection lights on the card and switch are on…..then as it beeps saying the Firewall is up and running, the lights go off and "no carrier"
If fact, it seems to come back up for just a second or do when it shuts down, too.Anyone have any ideas on how to get PFSense to keep it up and active?
Thanks! -
Well…..never mind I guess. :D
Turns out the problem wasn't the NIC and PFSense, it was my test-bench switch going bad.
Stupid thing suddenly decided to only let devices connect to it at a 10Mbs, which I guess made PFSense just go "Nope, not gonna play that slow" and showed as no cable connected at all.I'm up and running now with a different switch, so all good!
