I have just gotten myself a HP thin client t730 to use as a pfsense router it also has a intel 4 port nic.
The installation goes fine and reboots into the the pfsense menu, however I cannot connect to the web gui. My wan connection gives me my ipv6 address and my lan is the generic pfsense 192.168.1.1.

I have tried resetting the ethernet ports, re-installing pfsense, assigning ports. Nothing seems to work. Any help would be appreciated.

When you went through the interface / IP configuration, did you enable the DHCP server on LAN?

Did you connect a computer directly to the pfSense LAN port?
Is the device configured to pull IPs automatically from DHCP server?
        What are it's interface settings?

          @viragomann

The Wan was set to DHCP, the Lan was set to static, I did the ip configuration and changed it to DHCP and I still wasn't able to get any connection.

I did try and connect my computer directly to the lan port and it wasn't able to get a ip address from the DHCP server

What do you mean by interface settings so I can give you exact information.

My question was, if you enabled the DHCP server on pfSense during initial interface configuration.
There are two parts in the setup regarding DHCP, client and server.
You can set each pfSense interface to pull an IP from a DHCP server, but if you choose to set the LAN IP manually (static) pfSense asks you to enable the DHCP server on LAN.
This should be done if you want get the IP automatically on a connected device.

            What's its recent network configuration?
If you're not running a DHCP serer on pfSense LAN you have to configure the IP, mask and gateway by yourself.

@viragomann @viragomann redone the installation and I was able to connect to the web gui however I could not get a outside connection. I have a IPV6 connection, so I am not sure if this is any different at setting up that IPV4.

                You have only IPv6 connectivity?

@stephenw10 Sorry, what I mean is that the ISP assigns me a IPV6 address due to the now shortage of IPV4.

I am able to connect to the internal network through PFsense, but I am unable to get an outward connection, I am unsure if its because I have a static IP.

Ok, so they don't give you an IPv4 address at all? ISPs that do that usually have some sort of CGN or v4-overv6 tunnel option.

Can you ping out from pfSense itself via IPv6? (or IPv4) Check Diag > Ping in the GUI.

                    Steve

@stephenw10 I can't check it right now, but I will later.
                      The ISP has a CGNAT.

OK, so you get an IPv4 address but it's in a private subnet?
