      Hi,

      My pfsense hardrive was corrupted and I need to reformat it. Luckily, I have the back up config and reupload it on my device. However, I notice that I'm still getting the old IP address even though I've change DHCP server. The IP address was not included now in DHCP server. I tried to /renew and /release my Laptop and manually input the IP but still error persist. I also clear the dhcp lease in Edit file but nothing happens. Right now, I'm having a hard time with my connection and causes conflict with my current IP. What should I do?

        When doing so, you will see activity here Status > System Logs > DHCP
        You would see the request - you can recognize it by it's MAC address - from your laptop, and pfSense will propose en IP (lease).

        Edit : and where are the logs ??

          Sounds like you have a different router giving out DHCP addresses.

            @rcoleman-netgate Actually, my ISP before was static and recently change to dynamic (residential) because of the price. I tried to clear the DHCP leases and ARP table. But nothing happened. Still the same.

              @kenj05 what happens inside your home network has nothing to do with the ISP.

              what I am saying is I think you have another device at home handing out DHCP addresses... a Wireless AP, perhaps, that is not in AP mode but in routing mode?

                  @kenj05 What you could do is install Wireshark and run this filter:

                  udp.port == 68

                  And check the device giving out DHCP addresses to see if it matches the MAC address of your pfSense LAN interface. No match means something else is out there, and the MAC address can be looked up (like here) to find out what hardware you want to be looking for. It's not always precise but it often can be.

                    @kenj05 if this is a Windows laptop, “ipconfig /all” will show the DHCP server it’s using.

                      @steveits While I'm not a Windows user I see a few in TAC and the one I was helping last week had W11 and it didn't show the servicing DHCP server... could be their build, but I'm thinking it might be going away.

                        @rcoleman-netgate I admittedly don't have the new 22H2 version yet but I'd be surprised if it was removed after all this time (and yet...not, hmmm 😟). It should show "DHCP Server" between the "Default Gateway" and "DHCPv6 IAID" or "DNS Servers" lines. Have to use the "/all" option.

                          @steveits I have 22h2 on windows 10, and the dhcp server is clearly still listed there.
