Miscellaneous--> Proxy support. Error when I use domain Name before the username
-
Hi there,
I am a newbie in PFsense configuration, at the moment i am stuck on the section of configuring the proxy for the WAN port to be able to go out to the internet:--> System\Advanced\Miscellaneous\Proxy support
In the field "username" I need to write --> domain\username
but I receive the error message "The proxy username contains invalid characters"Could someone kindly direct me on the solution to this problem?
many thanksS.black

Is the domain name really necessary to authenticate? If so try <username>@<host name>. -

hello,
unfortunately the domain name before the username is necessary.
I have tried your solution "username@hostname" in the field "Proxy URL" but unfortunately
the answer is " The following input errors were detected: Proxy URL must be a valid IP address or FQDN."thanks

Interestingly you can just edit the config.xml directly to use a username like that and it doesn't invalidate the config. It does prevent you saving that page again though so you can't make any other changes there without removing that. And I have no way of knowing if it actually sends that info correctly. You could try it as a test though.

thank you for your suggestions.
I tried editing the config.xml file correctly by entering the domain\username in the username field, but unfortunately when restarting pfsense the web interface does not go up. As soon as I removed the domain name and in particular the "backslash" simbol, the interface went back to working.thanks

Hmm, interesting that wasn't the case when I tried it. What pfSense version are you running?
You tried using the alternative format and the proxy reuses it?

hi Steve,
the version I use is the 2.6.0.
In the file config.xml I have tried only to modify the "username"
On friday I will test the alternative format in the field "URL" in the config.xml file
I will update you
thank you for now!regards
