      Hi all:

I am using an SG-1100 with the latest stable pfsense+ software release. I bought it in August of 2020. I have had no issues until recently when I suspect the LAN port is no longer working. I have multiple VLANs setup and can’t access the device through the web interface connected to the LAN port. Other systems cannot get IP addresses or ping pfsense through LAN port. My devices connected to the OPT port are working fine and can access the internet through WAN port and other wise function properly. This leads me to suspect the LAN port.

I’ve tried different network cables connected to the LAN port with no success. I’ve used the USB console before but don’t know what commands to run to test the LAN port once connected.

Lastly, if I did a factory reset would I go all the way back to the software from August 2020 or back to the more recently installed version without any of my configurations? I have a backup of my settings that I could restore if need be.

Can anyone suggest any other things I could try for either fault isolation OR to restore normal operation?

I assume you can't access anything on any of the VLANs using the LAN port either?

At the console try going top the command line (menu option 8) and running: etherswitchcfg
If the on-board switch has somehow been misconfigured it would show there.

If you set the factory defaults it only resets the config. The pfSense version will remain the same as it is now.

If you can access the GUI through the OPT port though I would check the status of the LAN port in Interfaces > Switch > Ports.

Thank you for your help. I did a factory reset from the console and the everything works again! I then restored a backup from 6 months ago and had nothing working on the LAN port again. This is very strange as this setup has been working for at least 6 months, I made no configuration changes and the problem appeared just a few days ago. I tried a few times with the same results, works after factory reset but not with any of by backups.

I'm hoping to isolate the problem since I made a number of changes and installed a few of the official packages in the past few months, ie VLANs, Wake on LAN, firewall rules, etc.

Any suggestions on what I might try would be greatly appreciated.

@kenw The 1100 uses VLANs to isolate the ports which are all on the same switch. So that seems like a possible area where changes could break things. Though, no idea why it would start being a problem just recently. Was there a power outage or reason it would have booted, maybe?

You can restore a specific part of the configuration backup if you want to try that.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

I decided to just reenter my configurations. It was easier since I could copy and paste from the backup I had. Firewall has been up and stable for the past couple of days since the factory reset. Thanks for your help.
