Why is there no Plus install package?
-
Does anyone know???
Seems ludicrous to me that the only way to get Plus (on non-Netgate hardware) is to install CE and then upgrade.
CE does not currently support Intel I226-V nics, and that means I cannot install CE on my new firewall box without either virtualizing (that I do not want to do) or buying throw-away USB nics. Plus DOES support I226-V, but I cannot just download the ***** thing.
The only other option is to upgrade my current system to Plus and then pull the SSD, put it in the new system and hope it works/is stable. Hardly ideal.
Very frustrating, tbh.

@chippy_boy Because we have not made it available.
The process to get Plus requires a series of checks and authorizations and, as of this time, that process is all done online.
In the future it might change but for the time being we are not distributing an ISO or IMG of Plus.
The best solution I gave you on your TAC request still stands:
When 2.7 comes out (which is coming soon, as we are ACTIVELY testing the software) you can go straight to 23.01 with a valid license key. -
@rcoleman-netgate Thanks for your reply.
However, you must be confusing me with another poster. I have no idea what a TAC request is, and I certainly have not raised or seen one.

@chippy_boy Heh. Well, I had a request just yesterday from a user with dozens of those systems and the same solution options were given to them. My apologies for the confusion.
Your best alternative solution for this one firewall you bought is the USB NIC from 2.6 to 2.7-DEV and try to migrate to 23.01 from there. It's untested at the moment.
Believe it or not that's the option my colleagues have as well when testing new hardware unsupported by RELEASE.

@rcoleman-netgate No apologies needed!
But it just shows, there are a number of people in the same boat. I will wait for the official 2.7 release. I was just curious (and tbh a little frustrated) as to why there was no native Plus install option.
Having been running (very happily, I might add) pfsense for a few months, I thought it prudent to buy a back-up box, in case the primary fails and leaves me offline. The backup is newer and has the Intel 226 NICs, so not much use until I can get any software loaded on it. But since it is only a backup, I will sit tight for now.
Thanks again

Agreed, it makes sense to allow install of Plus and then to activate/register or whatever process it's called during the first time it goes online. No harm in at least letting it be installed, pretty big oversight imo.
