Samsung RV515 Laptops dropping connection 2 or 3 times daily…
-
Well I finally get to make my first post here lol. Anyway…
An interesting thing is happening at one location I service. Two of the workstations are Samsung RV-515 laptops running Win7 Pro (OEM) as DHCP clients w/IP's reserved by MAC on the pfSense 2.0.3 fwall/router.
2.0.3-RELEASE (i386) built on Fri Apr 12 10:22:21 EDT 2013 FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE-p13
No I haven't done an update yet. I'm always a little leary as to how safe that just might be in a prod environment, so I'm all ears on how seamless and safe it is if anyone wants to chime in on that point too.
Well, these two workstations were originally shipped with Win7/64 Home Premium version and had no issues w/dropped network connections before w/a crappy d-link router (other than the whole router taking a big dump on a regular basis). They are members of a SAMBA domain, the DC is a ClearOS box (current version) w/DHCP disabled on that DC (Once again, they receive their IPs via DHCP from MAC reseverations on the pfSense fwall)
They are equipped w/an Atheros AR9285 wireless NIC - but are participating on the network and domain via wired Ethernet via their RJ45 ports instead, which is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (Bus 5 Device 0 Function 0). No conflicts are observed in Windows device mgr and driver info/specs are as follows:
c:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\RT64Win7.sys - version 7.40.126.2011 (26jan2011) c:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\RTNicProp64.dll - version 1.2.0.3 c:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\RTNUninst64.dll - version 1.0.0.5
The service on these two machines goes out typically two or three times a day, and nothing but a reboot fixes it. On the switch in the machine room, I note that neither machine is connecting at 1Gbps either.
Well if anyone has any pointers I would sure appreciate it :)
Kindest regards,
