wondering if this has been addressed or planned for future release, but why doesn't the service status update in the gui without reloading the browser? most other things like temp and cpu in the system information and obviously traffic graphs all update on the screen in real time, but not service status. when I am troubleshooting things, starting and stopping services in the background, I have to refresh the whole browser window to find out if it worked. I get the same behavior from the Status / Services page.

one more thing in the same category of minor annoyances... is there going to be a automatic dark mode theme coming, or is there already one I can use?

@cloudless-smart-home Nothing on the GUI is realtime but there is an automatic refresh.

There's already a dark theme installed by default. System/General/webConfigurator/Theme

not true. as I mentioned the temperature and other things are constantly updating in real time. the only thing that doesn't afaik is the status / services.

I'm aware of that, but modern web applications have themes that update with the system or at least have a widget on the top to change from light to dark. it would be nice if I could change themes without having to go into my settings every time to do it. that's why I posted these feature requests.

They are service checks back -- on a set interval but they're still slightly delayed.

You can post a request in the redmine for this. https://redmine.pfsense.org/

@rcoleman-netgate I'm supposed to be patient when I'm troubleshooting? 🤣 thanks for letting me know.

Currently it does not update automatically, only when you reload the page.

If you're troubleshooting services us the Status->Services page.
The dashboard puts a lot of CPU load on the firewall when it is open. It's supposed to give you a snapshot of what's going on, not be a 100% realtime indicator.

100% what I was using, but as mentioned above the widget seems to be mirroring the behavior of the Status / Services page, so that doesn't update either, so that is the real issue. I will edit the title of this post. Also, what would be a good way to check the cpu load without going to the dashboard, because the way I have it setup with every bell and whistle, it is showing cpu hovering between 50% - 90% lately

@stephenw10 oh good to know. So this sort of post on the forum is basically complaining in the wrong place? Feature requests / bug reports should be done on redmine?

Do you not use SNMP? Thats the application sole purpose for existing. Monitor system resources and if used in conjunction with a NMS (Zabbix, SolarWinds,LibreNMS,etc..) you get alerts. Why are you relying on a dashboard for this when a 30 year old tool still in use in enterprises can do the same task and better?

@michmoor I appreciate your comment. any further advice on that? I installed zabbix awhile back and then went back later and turned it off. I also tried to learn about snmp in general, but got lost pretty quick and lost interest. do you use zabbix? do you use the snmp agents, zabbix agents, or both? do you use snmp with high security settings? any specific tutorials, documentation you would recommend on the topic? I am only using this stuff in my home lab, but am very interested in pursuing relevant networking, and cybersecurity skills.

It's usually better to ask on the forum first and then open an issue on redmine once you have proven a bug or that a feature doesn't exist.
Way too many people open bugs on redmine without any real troubleshooting first.
