      We have a pair of 1541's in carp mode running 22.05-Release. We are facing an intermittent issue with updating the software and packages.
      When it's playing up, If you go through the web interface, it reports "unable to check for updates"
      Going through the console we are seeing
      connection reset by peer
      repository has no meta file, using default settings
      unable to update repository
      Authentication error

      If you try update or install a package, it's reporting the authentication error most of the time.

      I've scoured the logs on this but am struggling to find any useful clues as to what's causing the issue. Can anyone give me an idea of where to search so I can diagnose the issue properly?

        @siil-it Have you looked through https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/troubleshooting/index.html#installation-upgrades ?

        Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
        When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

          @siil-it said in Struggling to update a 1541:

          unable to check for updates

          When that happens try running:

          pkg-static -d update

          Note the errors it shows and what it actually trying to connect to.

            Thanks for the comments guys, it turns out we had a bad image and some carp issues.
            After a rebuild with a fresh image, things are working ok now
