I saw the notification earlier today about 23.01 being available. When I tried to upgrade this evening, something changed. Now, I am on the "latest version", but still running 23.01.r.20230208.1414.

This message appears under System Update:

We could not connect to Netgate servers. Please try again later.

#metoo - Starting to think the repo servers died and my upgrade issues on various devices are related to that. I did 2 devices in the afternoon of 15 Feb (Central TZ) then I got side-tracked. A few hours later I tried to upgrade some instances in Asia remotely and 3/3 fail with repo issues.

@mwatch EC2 instance upgraded from 22.05 to 23.01, after upgrade reboot I get this notice:

PHP ERROR: Type: 1, File: /usr/local/sbin/ec2_setup.php, Line: 299, Message: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot access offset of type string on string in /usr/local/sbin/ec2_setup.php:299
          Stack trace:
          #0 /usr/local/sbin/ec2_setup.php(478): writeOpenVPNConfig('<REDACTED_PUBLIC_IP_OF_FIREWALL>')
          #1 {main}
          thrown @ 2023-02-16 08:25:49

Strange thing is: I don't have any config related to OpenVPN (client or server).

          What to do now?

I am getting that this morning on all my pfsense systems, I should have updated last night before the systems got overwhelmed.

                  Hello,

I'm having issues trying to update to v23.01 on my SG-1100 appliance. It gets stuck when fetching the new kernel image, then the device restarts itself. Haven't done any further troubleshooting just yet, but wondering what logs I should look into?

                  Thanks!

Mine all started working now. 2/2 done lunch time Central. Then nothing worked now 6/6 that failed most of the day are all working now. Must have been a repo meltdown of sorts.

Must have been overloaded servers. Updated to 23.01 this morning and all is well.

@mtrimarchi I got same fatal error but instead file was pointing to avahi.inc. I had to restore 22.05 using backup boot environment.

I may try updating again after removing Avahi package.

Upgraded and machine will not boot. Network is hosed. How do I get back to 22.05?

ZFS Boot Environments got your back on this assuming you are using ZFS, not UFS. The upgrade would have created a snapshot for you automatically.

@rwurwin can you look at the upgrade log? And/or what does the console show?
                                    There is https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/13967 for 1100/2100.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

If you’re saying you restarted it then you didn’t wait long enough and will likely have to reinstall. Or if it’s the boot loader problem I linked.
