      Hi,

I have a frustrating issue with my pfSense setup. For about a week now, my WAN connection drops at random intervals.

At first I thought it was something I had done to my configuration as I was starting to have some more interesting routing rules created, but after attempting to fix it I believe it is not as I have factory reset back to as basic a config as possible. The current config I am using until the issue is resolved is factory defaults except:

      • DHCP v4 on WAN with DHCP v6 disabled
      • Static IP on LAN with a DHCP v4 server, v6 disabled

When the issue occurs, a simple re-run of dhclient can be used to re-connect to WAN. What I have tried to fix the issue so far:

      • Disabled gateway monitoring action
      • Created /var/run/dhclient folder as it was missing so the pid could be created
      • Added a conjob to kill dhclient and restart it every 5 mins
        • This fixes the issue but the problem is that for up to 5 mins there is no internet connection, so the solution is not enough
      • Replaced the ethernet cable between box and WAN
      • Swapped to a different ethernet card

Next on the list is to wipe the whole OS and start again, rather than just a pfsense factory reset as it appears to be an issue with the OS to me at this point.

What else could I try to debug the issue? I've had a look through the logs, there doesn't appear to be much in there to indicate the issue, other than the alarm that the gateway is going down.

      Thanks!
