Sky MER not working with pfsense 2.3

Hi in reference to this older thread https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=48663.0
I am trying to get online (just ipv4 currently to keep it simple).
I entered my username|password into the hostname field but the connection will not come online. All the logs are almost empty no useful information.
It seems to be coming up and down in a loop tho as on the status page the wan ip occasionally appears, however is never showing in ifconfig and all internet routing is dead, works fine in my asus ac68.
any ideas?
actually the dhcp log has information, is as follows loads of these.
