      Hi,

I experience since some time now, occasional cuts, like pauses when streaming music (different players and services). Usually short (~1s), but sometime longer (up to 10m) too.

While this is not too much of a problem, it is sometimes a bit disturbing. No one seems to know what or even have a clue. It does not affect movies of anything other than music strangely enough.

Could I do something to better see what is happening?

As it is highly intermittent, I'd rather use pfSense if possible. Any ideas?

      Thanks

@furom All streaming buffers at least a bit on the device. Packet loss, poor Wi-Fi, connection issues, etc. can contribute. Any entries in your pfSense logs at the time? Try a continual ping somewhere and see if you're getting packet loss.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

Thanks. Haven't tried the continuous ping as it can be days in between this occurring, but no packet loss is reported by pfSense, it's steady at 0%.

And nothing logged, like the WAN reconnected maybe? Or something like pfBlocker pulling in list updates?

No disconnects, and well, atm I have pfBlocker installed, but this started a long time before I recently installed that.

                Perhaps other packets installed?

                • Snort with some rules affecting that behaviour
                • Squid and ClamAV and not checked don´t scan "streams"
                • Squid set up to pass through streams from audio and/or video
                • in pfBlocker-NG the servers for the streaming into a whitelist perhaps?

Thanks for good suggestion! This started before I even knew I could install any sort of packets on pfSense, so I must assume it is not the setup in itself...?
