X552/X557-AT and 5GBASE-T
-
I am trying to use an X10SDV-6C+-TLN4F as my motherboard for my pfsense build along with my bgw320-505 which has a 5GBASE-T port but the issue is that the negotiated speed is only 1000BASE-T.
This seems like a driver issue since the X552/X557-AT can negotiate at 5GBASE-T in other OSes.Any ideas or recommendations to get the X552/X557-AT to run at 5GBASE-T?
Thank you,

In my eyes all is fine then, on your setup!
Mainboard: (X10SDV-6C+-TLN4F)
Dual LAN with Intel Ethernet Controller I350-AM2
Dual LAN with Supports 10Base-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T, RJ45 output
SoC Dual 10GbE Controller
Single LAN with 1 Realtek RTL8211E PHY (dedicated IPMI)10 GBe Ports onboard: (Intel Ethernet X557-AT)
It supports 100Base-T, 1000Base-T, 10GBase-TModem: (ARRIS BGW320)
ONT port
4x 1 GBit/s ethernet ports with 100/1000 MBit/s
1x 5 GBit/s ethernet port with 100/1000/5000 MBit/sSo if I am not wrong with this, the Arris is able to connect
to the 10 GBe ports from the mainboard SoC only with 1
GBit/s and not with 5 GB, because it is not supported on
the "other" side. -
You are correct the ARRIS BGW320 does not support 10GBase-T. It looks like it was my misunderstanding on Intel Ark that Intel Ethernet X557-AT could support 5GBase-T. I thought it did. I will need to keep with my current connection by using an RJ-45 to SFP+ that supports 5GBase-T with my Mellanox card.
Thank you for looking into this.

There are very few NICs that support 5G in FreeBSD. As you say the hardware itself appears capable so a newer driver may help there. Are you running 2.6? Try a 2.7 snapshot if you can. Or upgrade to 23.01. Both a are built on FreeBSD head so have the most recent driver.

Currently on 2.6 but will try 2.7.

If you get success you may be perhaps report it here,
would be nice to hear something about from you.
It is not a seldom question
