      Hi.

Since I migrated from pfSense CE 2.6.0 to Plus 23.01 I have encoutered a lot of crashes. Sometimes more than one per day. pfSense hangs, stops responding to pings, routing internet, access to webgui, everything. Most of the times (but not always) reboots itself after some minutes. The crashes are completely random, sometimes even when no one is using internet (dawn).

My hardware is a Celeron N5100, virtualizing pfSense with lastest Proxmox. The host (and other VMs) never crashed.

I hadnt a single crash in almost 2 years, using "CE" version.

      Crash log:

      Any thoughts?

I have not upgraded any from CE to Plus, but, I seem to recall seeing a handful of threads for people seeing PHP or other errors after doing so.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

Yeah large pastebins must pass manual inspection, I think. I'm waiting for moderators to approve it.

Don't know if it's my case, the entire pfsense crash and reboot. But I'll search for these problems, who knows.

Can you just attach the crash log txt here?

However there are known issues with Proxmox on Jasper Lake:

            Some suggested fixes there.

I did, but only in my "testlab", a VM in VMware workstation I use for testing prior doing the changes at my appliance. The VM runs a couple of days, so I should have been aware if there have been constant reboots. In addition the VM sends mails when halting/booting, so at least the boot mails I should have received.
Never have had such an issue. But, to be honest, the CE -> Plus Upgrade was always from CE 2.6 to 22.05, not to 23.01.
May be just by chance, it was shortly before 23.01 was available. When updating to 23.01 I was running into the same PHP errors, but they disappeared after rebooting a 2nd time.

              Regards

                crash.txt

                There it is.

Wow, this seems exactly my problem. I'll try to update intel microcode and Debian Kernel to 6.2.

                Thanks.

Yup, the backtrace you are seeing is also in cpu_idle. It seems very likely you're hitting that issue.

                      You have a crash report?

                        root@pve2:~# cat /proc/cpuinfo |grep microcode
                        microcode : 0x24000024
                        microcode : 0x24000024
                        microcode : 0x24000024
                        microcode : 0x24000024

@burgerking31337 after I upgraded my Proxmox machine to latest intel microcode (not debian's latest, the actual latest), I never have a single reboot on any VM.
