      My previous setup was with an edgerouter. I have found that my PPPoE connections via my old setup stayed up for hours/days where as my setup with the pfsense in drops and reconnects multiple times in minutes or in an hour.

      I have removed the monitor setup and that still doesn't fix the issue I have.

      NBN -> managed Switch -> Intel NUC (pfsense) -> (same Managed Switch) -> rest of network

      TPG is my Provider for NBN on the Ultrafast plan. DHCP IP only
      I set idle timeout as 0, which is how my Edgerouter was set.

      I didn't have any thing non standard on the edgerouter, account, password, MTU

      Intel NUC only has 1 network port so VLAN for PPPoE (re0.10) which from managed switch is untagged to NBN
      LAN connection is native (re0)

      was going to look at the advanced options but I may also try adding a second Network port via USB to it and have that was the WAN connection direct to NBN modem and the onboard as LAN only,

        @phildean66 pfSense Version?

        RealTek driver version? Realtek NICs are a major PITA in FreeBSD.

                Install the System Patches package and then install all the recommended updates (System->Patches) and then reboot. See if that resolves your PPPoE issue.

                  What do you see in the ppp log when it disconnects?

                    Don't TPG still use PPPoE over VLAN 10?

                    Try including the managed switch to NBN modem link in VLAN 10.

                      @biggsy

                      TPG don't use a VLAN normally to NBN as every other setup I used previously I never configured a vlan on I've only done it on the pfsense setup as I have 1 network connection and had to limit the traffic on the LAN,

                      pfsense on my managed switch in port 47 has vlan 10 tagged and vlan 1 native and port 48 which is going to NBN has only vlan 10 and it's set as native so no tag appears.

                          @phildean66 said in pfsense dropping pppoe connection multiple times an hour:

                          May 14 17:54:18 InternetRouter ppp[50581]: [wan] IFACE: Add description "WAN"
                          May 14 18:07:18 InternetRouter ppp[50581]: caught fatal signal TERM

                          Ok so what happens between those logs? Something is shutting down the mpd service.
                          Anything in the system log at those times?

                            TPG don't use a VLAN normally to NBN

                            I was working from memory there. Actually, it's VLAN 2 that TPG expects. For example, see this recent post on Whirlpool.

                            If you had been using TPG-supplied routers, the VLAN would have been preconfigured. Not sure about the ER but easy enough to check.

                            BTW, I assume you realise that, with only one network port on the NUC, you will be sharing its 1Gb/s bandwidth between LAN and WAN - limiting your Ultrafast download.

                            USB/ethernet adapters are not normally recommended here.

                                Yeah I know.

                                standard basic setup wizard used on the ER so I know there was no VLAN, currently ER has been up for 22hr on the WAN connection since I swapped it back in yesterday until I can work out the issue with this.

                                I don't have another device I can try for this setup yet.

                                  Sorry, out of ideas there except maybe trying VLAN 2 is worth a go.

                                  Have to say, my experience with TPG a few years ago put me right off ever dealing with them again.

                                    This is usually a sign you need to be using the alternative Realtek driver. You mentioned above you were going to try it but I assume you have not yet.

                                    Using any other type of NIC instead is preferable though. (Except USB! 😉 )

                                      I have loaded up 197 driver and will see how that goes.
