Looking at taking advantage of the upgrade to the 4100, and options to hit the ground running (mitigate LAN downtime) if I do so. Is it feasible, possibly without a package backup, to simply restore my current 3100 config to the new 4100. This with the understanding that there will be interface tweaking left to do. Looking more to eliminate the process of recreating the VLANs and firewall rules.

Thanks in advance for any guidance or options to explore.

@Wildeaux If you have VLANs set up to isolate interfaces on the 3100's switch then Netgate will convert the config for you if you open a ticket at go.netgate.com. If it's just LAN and WAN and OPT1 you can assign those while restoring the config.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@SteveITS Thanks for the prompt response.

It's a simple LAN - the predominance of my VLANs are routed through a single interface. It sounds like I'm covered either way on the upgrade. Is there a "best practice" regarding installing the config on the new machine with/without a package backup?

@Wildeaux Not really. If you restore while it has Internet it will install the missing packages. You can also install those ahead of time, or else unplug WAN, restore, let package installation fail, and then install later.
