How to setup Netgate 2100 with an ISP PPPOE router end more...
-
I am pulling my hair out (or I would be if I had any), so I hope someone can help me.
My Issue - I don't understand how to do it !! Set up my network i mean!I have a PPPOE ISP provided TP-Link router/modem, and a Netgate 2100 with PFsense+ preinstalled, and a bought a separate TP-link 8 port Managed Switch and a WIFI6 router/modem by D-Link (DIR-X3000Z).
I have tried setting the ISP router into Bridge Mode, so that my wifi can be controlled / supplied by the new D-Link Wifi 6 router as an Access Point.
I cannot seem to be able to set the PPPOE to bridge mode and disable DHCP, and if I try setting up WIFI on PFsense it does not have any "parent" option in the dropdown and so I cannot add any WIFI.
I have not even included the Switch in my attempts yet as that would confuse me even more I think.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction (a network diagram would help) -
The wireless interface type in pfSense is for wifi hardware in pfSense itself which is not what you have.
Your access point should simply be connected to one of the LAN ports in the 2100. Devices that connect to the AP will just get an IP from pfSense in the LAN subnet. Later you may want to move those to a new subnet so you can filter between them but I would only attempt that after first making it work as part of LAN.
The pfSense WAN should be set to PPPoE but that can only work if the upstream device is bridging the PPPoE connection correctly.
