      Hi all,

I see on an old post that the Jetway NF592-Q170 may need a patch to enable x4 support?

Does anyone have a copy of that patch file?

      Old post for reference: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/119014/nf592-q170-with-aoc-sgp-i4/2

I received an updated link from Jetway! Very good tech support.

This patch apparently converts the PCIE x4 slot to x4 lanes: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8f1dzytgint2rnh/nf592x4.rar?dl=0

I'll be trying the x4 patch and hopefully it resolves my network card reliability issues.

Hmm, so I guess it's a full BIOS flash. Just set the with the slot set to 4x.

Not sure - I informed Jetway that I am already on the latest 2020 BIOS and they sent the patch over nevertheless.

There is no option in the BIOS to change the lane speed. There was an odd option to change the Mini-PCIe slot speed, but when I did that, the card would not be detected.

            They said:

            "PCIe slot on NF592 is a x4(size) slot with 1 lane(X4 1 lane).

You can change PCIe slot on NF592 to a standard x4 4 lane by running batch file below in dos:"

I don't think it's merely a BIOS flash? Other people have reported the flash is required to enable x4. The slot is usually used for their custom side-port LAN expansion modules.

I hope this resolves my issue with the 2.5Gbe i255 card I was trying to use. The card was detected by ESXi and pfSense, and the card synced at 2.5gbe with my Bell Fiber GigaHub but the pfSense VM could not obtain a PPPoE carrier signal - it kept saying LCP link down.

Yup, let us know how it goes.

I flashed the board with the patch - it is not a BIOS update but was an Intel flasher, so it does seem to change the PCI setup.

ESXi recognizes the card but passthrough is not available with the particular adapter.

I configured one port as VMXNET3, but unfortunately I'm not able to get a PPPoE connection, I keep getting the following:

                Aug 7 00:26:13	ppp	97675	[wan_link0] Link: reconnection attempt 1 in 2 seconds
                Aug 7 00:26:13	ppp	97675	[wan_link0] LCP: Down event
                Aug 7 00:26:13	ppp	97675	[wan_link0] Link: DOWN event
                Aug 7 00:26:13	ppp	97675	[wan_link0] PPPoE connection timeout after 9 seconds

I'm not sure at this point whether it's the board, the riser cable, ESXi or pfSense.

Does the port work if you set it to DHCP as a test?

I gave up ... since my interface names kept on shifting.

I think I'm going to look for a 2.5gbe or faster replacement for my NF592-Q170 board. This is a really great board with 8 x LAN ... I wish there was something comparable today.

UPDATE: I tried one more time this time on bare metal - the PCIE 4X connector indeed works with the QNAP 4 port card.

It seems ESX has trouble with the PCIE slot, but native is OK.

                      Now I have a 12 port router w/ 8 x 1Gbe and 4 x 2.5Gbe.

I'm going to test stability over the next few days.
