installation on thinclient with realtek nic
-
I'm trying to install Pfsense 2.7 on a Wyse thinclient. The installation process goes well and the system seems to work fine. The Thinclient has 4 GB RAM 16 GB Flash and it is a dual core Atom CPU. My issue is that I only have a single network card.
Initially I was trying to setup separate vlans for WAN and LAN, and even when I was able to create the vlans I am not able to communicate with my home network. After many tests I decided to try to setup only the WAN interface with no vlans just to make sure that I was able to connect the device to the network and access the webconfigurator but even when I see that the NIC goes up during the boot process the interface is not able to get a DHCP address nor ping anything. When I setup a static address is the same, no communication at all. On the arp table of the switch I can see the mac address of the network card but I can not ping it.
The specific network card in the thinclient is a realtek 10/100/1000. PFsense recognize it and bring it up but no connectivity is possible. I have been reading that it could be an issue with the driver that is used on PFsense for realtek cards but since I have no communication with internet I am not able update to use the regular Freebsd driver.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Not passing any traffic is not the usual symptom for a Realtek NIC that is detected.
There is an alternative driver but to install it you would need to use some other NIC temporarily or somehow copy the pkg onto the box directly.Steve
