I recently signup for Bell Fiber 3G. I currently own Netgate SG-5100 and obviously it won't be able to fully utilize the 3G. So I ordered Netgate 6100 and waiting for it to arrived. I read the documentation but I'm not clear. This will be first time that I will using 10G sfp+ and I don't have experience with sfp+. All my experience is with rj45. I read some document but it just create more question than answer. I understand that SFP+ to RJ45 Copper Module is not recommend for the Netgate 6100.

So I planning go with this setup: Bell Modem (HW4000) -> rj45 -> media converter -> dac -> netgate

My question is the media converter and dac. Are hardware below suitable for my setup?

      • 10G SFP+ DAC Cable - 10GBASE-CU Passive Direct Attach Copper Twinax SFP Cable (1m)

      • TRENDnet 10GBASE-T to SFP+ Fiber Media Converter, TFC-10GSFP
        https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0C871SQVQ/?coliid=IYHRJF4IDBYK0&colid=1AZL8NRXY24FV&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I will be using Cat6a connect between Bell Modem and the media converter. Media converter will be in the same location as the Netgate 6100 so 1m should be enough. While the Bell Modem will be in the living room.

      Thanks in advance.

Yes, I'd expect that to work.

Whilst RJ-45 SFP+ adapters are not technically supported there are reports here on the forum of some that work. Using one would likely be cheaper (if it works!).

@stephenw10 Thank you. I was thinking of getting RJ45 SFP+ but hearing from the forum it can get very hot and may require rebooting. I will stick with the dac solution. It is addition cost but better have cool equipment than a hot one.
