Missing amdsbwd.ko driver in pfSense 2.7.0
-
Hi at all,
this is my first topic and i hope i can find a solution!
after upgrading to pfSense 2.7.0 many driver modules are killed at the kernel.
I was trying to make a new reinstall of pfSense 2.6.0, because there the driver was availaible.
But then, the big surprise, pkg update was not working, because the message in the GUI was "pkg is not up to date" or similar...So i find no way to run with 2.6.0 and upgrade to 2.7.0...
But how i mentioned, in 2.7.0 the amdsbwd is missing....
Will be a kernel with the driver provided next time?
Or do you have a solution, how to add the driver as working ko-module to /boot/kernel?Many Thanks,
greetings at all!

You can set the pkg repo to 2.6 deprecated and then pkg installs will work.
You could upgrade to 23.05.1 where the modules are present.
Does you hardware not run without the watchdog device?

Hi Steve,
thanks for your reply! You can set the pkg repo to 2.6 deprecated and then pkg installs will work.
Ok, in this case i can only make a new installation of 2.6 and look for this option.
It was a few month ago, where i upgraded to the new version, so i can't exactly remember, which setting-options was presented in the GUI.You could upgrade to 23.05.1 where the modules are present.
I don't have pfSense plus, i have only CE.
So i have no possibility in my point of few to upgrade to 23.05.1.Does you hardware not run without the watchdog device?
Every hardware runs without a watchdog function, but for monitoring reasons it is better, to check the software additionally over a hardware watchdog!By the way, i have a APU4-Board as hardware.
Thanks, Joern

You can upgrade to plus any time. It will run fine on the APU4:

Hi Steve,
ok thats nice, but i am only a commercial private User and from my knowledgement plus is the fee-based version.
So is this the only way to change to a software where i have to pay (parhaps many 100 Dollars per year)?
I am no company, i don't need any features with support, hotlines and so on....
My firewall is only in private use and for this there is no suppurt or help over a forum possible (like eg. other Linux-Systems)?And the new CE 2.7 version is only providing updates with non stable freeBSD-versions (freeBSD 14.0 is in the moment in the developement-phase, not a stable version)?
I don't understand this system?
I am sorry, this is nothing private against you!
But I only do not understand the whole system or the backround behind all...
Thanks, Joern

Plus upgrades are currently zero cost for private home use:

Ok, thanks, i was not looking for this.
This should be more or less new.
I see, there is also the Tac lite for zero. But there stands, the price will increase in the future.
Addtionally by Tac Lite (and other tac's) is written Softwareupdates. How can i understand this?
Its now free and perhaps in one year the cost increases to 129 $/year?And whats about the softwareupdates, because this point is not written by home/lab version?
Thanks for your efforts!

TAC lite allows commercial use. Home/Lab does not but that should be OK for you as I understand it.
Either way it will allow you to run a current version of pfSense on that APU today if you need that.

Yes normally, the Home edition should be right for me.
Now i have 2.7. I have no problem with tis new version, How i mentioned, if 23.05.1-Home-version provide all kernel modules, then everything is ok for me.
Do you have an idea, what is meant with the point software update?
All TAC products provide software-updates, home/lab version is nothing mentioned about that. Thanks

Point releases are usually for security updates or hardware support when a full release is not ready.
You can see what it included in this case here:
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/23-05-1.htmlYou can update home/lab installs.
