SG-2440 Sound/Speaker
-
Is there anyway to add a speaker to the SG-2440? I have a couple of these boxes in remote locations with no onsite tech. I may ask staff to reboot the box when troubleshooting issues. I use to use old PC's for this and liked hearing the chime when pfsense finished booting up that way I could confirm it finished booting. So I'm looking to replicate the same thing just with these boxes.

No, but the 'rev 2' will have one, and other features that have been asked-for.

rev 2? First I've heard of it!
Any chance it'll have one of those fancy locking power plugs? 8) -
Any chance you know when rev 2 will be out?
-
I do know, but it's not something we're making public yet.

Is the 4860 getting any kind of makeover as well?

How will one be able to tell if they have a "rev 2" 2440? Aside from hearing beeping noises, that is. It would figure that I would read this after just placing an order late last week. Somehow I missed this thread when it was first created.

Looks like a locking power plug would be a good indicator.

Well that's a big fat nope… so they're not yet shipping Rev 2 2440's yet. :(

Hopefully the updates justify the substantial price increases since the Atom fiasco. I've been very happy with the RCC-VE 2440, and was shocked to see the price jumped $200 to $550, and the SG went up $50 to match. I was considering a second SG- or RCC-VE 2440 for another site, but that's on hold for now.

I don't think there's anything worth $200 in upgrades, certainly not the 24GB of eMMC. ("*Note boards produced prior to 7 December 2016 have 8GB eMMC flash. Boards produced after 7 December 2016 have 32GB eMMC flash.")
Appears like the same HW used to cost a whole lot less when bought from Netgate store instead of pfSense, see e.g. the review here.
I chose to buy from Netgate rather than pfSense because the standalone Netgate RCC-VE 2440 costs just $349, a full $150 less than the identical pfSense SG-2440. If you buy from pfSense, you get two support calls, plus the knowledge that you’ve supported the project. But you can still buy support from pfSense if you buy the Netgate.

Yes, my point precisely.
