Good UPS choice for SG-1100?

Is it going to be installed somewhere with unreliable power?
The default install is ZFS which is very resilient to unexpected shutdowns but they should still be avoided if possible.

While I don't like the word "cheap" and "UPS" in the same sentence
, in general, there are very few systems these days that need a true sine wave. And to my knowledge, none that use a power brick. In other words, an "inexpensive" simulated sine wave UPS should be fine.

@stephenw10 The power is pretty stable where I live so I currently don’t have any UPS here. So mainly I was thinking about potential power cuts in the future or accidental loss of power from pulled power cables and so on…

@dennypage Thanks for this. I will look at some inexpensive models without worrying about whether it's outputting pure or simulated sine waves.

@ChapInTokyo We’ve generally used APC as a brand, and there is an apcupsd package in pfSense. If it’s just powering the router that uses little power so you may only need a smaller unit.

The pure or sim sine wave only refers to the AC element but I think there is some over-thinking here for a little DC box.
We use these excellent little devices for this kind of requirement:
Eaton 3S Mini UPS 36W 9/12/15/19 DC
Effectively a rechargeable battery in a box they deliver a clean DC supply on both mains power and when the power is cut. They are also efficient as they avoid the AC to DC to AC to DC chain you can get with a more traditional UPS; you just get the AC to DC once (on mains) or pure DC (on internal battery).
As an aside, even though I have an expensive UPS for my rack equipment I also use one of these on my ONT (modem).
Oh and they are also cheap to buy and cheap to run. The SG-1100 is a very low-power unit so enjoy the benefits of that and power it with an Eaton 3S.

Ooo that's interesting. I've used some small 12V UPSs with the 1100 here but it has no data feedback so no way to know it's status. I assume those have that? Does NUT support it?

@RobbieTT Oh this would have provided a nice compact solution for the SG-1100. Unfortunately, it seems that the distributor for Eaton only imports the more powerful models in the lineup! I suppose I could easily import from amazon.de but it is a hassle not having a local service center. It does look like a fine piece of kit though. Thanks for the tip!

@ChapInTokyo You can probably find an equivalent on Amazon. Search for "DC UPS."
Btw, the presence of USB does not mean the device has communication ability (I.E. with NUT). Many have USB, but for power output only.
