Snapshot builds broken?
-
The last 1.2.1-RC1 "full update" snapshot build was 3-Oct. The file was 25MB but previous builds were 38MB.
I downloaded http://snapshots.pfsense.org/FreeBSD7/RELENG_1_2/pfSense-Full-Update-1.2.1-RC1-20081002-0155.tgz and then tried an update firmware but on reboot the loader told me it couldn't find /boot/kernel/kernel but a directory listing from the loader showed the file there. I found a kernel.gz in that directory and tried to gunzip it but gunzip reported problems.
Its a couple of months since I updated firmware and though it about time I synced up again.

I'm seeing the same thing. Last file in the directory is from the 3rd and it looks to be corrupt, (unable to update using it)

The copy gets hung from time to time, and it's also possible to catch it in the middle of upload (though that's less likely). Verify against md5/sha before using, or just use the console upgrade which does that for you and won't install a file that didn't upload properly or got corrupted during download, etc.

@cmb:
… or just use the console upgrade which does that for you and ...
Tried that two days ago (2008-10-11) with pfSense 1.2.1RC.xyz installed.
Well, instead of updating the snapshot it successfully downgraded to 1.2release.
Is this the intended feature or sub optimally? ;D -
Thanks for providing a new snapshot build. I successfully updated to the build of Sat Oct 11 09:05:22 EDT 2008 (http://snapshots.pfsense.org/FreeBSD7/RELENG_1_2/pfSense-Full-Update-1.2.1-RC1-20081011-0905.tgz) and its been working fine for the last 24 hours.

Snapshots hung up again maybe? No update in over 24h. Although I see some CVS commits maybe designed to fix this, so maybe I have to be patient…? ;)
