Multiple default routes - selecting one
-
Hello everyone,
I got an 8200 operating on the edge and im getting 2x default routes from my service providers.
In the future this will be eBGP but for now default routing is fine.
Is there a way to set a route preference on a default route so for example prfer ISP-A with a metric of 5 vs ISP-B with a metric of 10. Typically in routing, lower preference is better.Lastly, can a 8200 or a 6100 handle the full routing table?

Not as far as I know. There can be only one default route for static routing. You can define the two gateways in a failover group and set that as default route. The system will use ISP-B is ISP-A goes down.
Ortherwise, yes, use dynamic routing.

@stephenw10 ahhhh yes I forgot about that technique. Thanks Stephen. Great advice

@stephenw10 can the 8200 handle a full inet table?
-
Yes. I don't have anything to check here but I don't expect a full v4 table to require more than 4GB and the 8200 has 16GB.

@stephenw10
Confirmed today.
Full inet table on the 8200.Thanks for the default route answer. I really did forget about the Tier Group configuration. Heck if i wanted to i can tell the client we can do load balance but this is going to be a primary/backup thing here for this site.

Full inet table on the 8200.How many routes is that right now? How much RAM did it use?
Always good to have a current data point. -
SP is Lumen. 918273 routes. 6GB of memory. Keep in mind i got some services running too but there was a big uptick in usage.
edit: i feel like it ate up 2GB or so? I dont have monitoring set up yet so cant give exact amount of memory used but its not terrible at all. Its sitting on the edge running nicely.

Nice, I expected closer to 3GB so that doesn't seem unreasonable.
