Curious other what the view is of this machine,
say configured with the 8GB RAM / 8GB eMMC storage,
I will add a 250GB SATA M.2 for bulk storage.

Asking as the input/feedback will give me some sort of indication re the processor and it's abilities.
I am looking at some of the SBC/Intel i5s also, with 2.5Gb Intel NIC's

If I were you, I would first consider what Netgate offers...without viewing, it sounds similar from your description and most likely is in the same price range...
-
@NollipfSense I'm more than familiar with the NetGate HW.
Not exactly similar at all, NetGate is ARM chips, this is Intel, NetGate have multiple models, any of them could be compared, and sure one of them might compare performance wise.
but then thats not my question.

Okay, I looked at it and it appears a good offer but would opted for the 16GB RAM unless it allows you to upgrade RAM when needed. That's about it...did you read the feedback one person gave? That should be sufficient to guide your purchase decision.
-
@NollipfSense always just a bit nervous of a single thumbs up review... not knowing where the person comes from... why i'm wondering what everyone here's view might be about this processor.
know a 16Gb and 8 core would be stronger, for sure, what would everyone's view of of the 4 core/8Gb option, as a min bottom line spec.

The four core should be sufficient with 16 RAM... if your expected life cycle is 3 - 5yrs and depends on your home network needs...yeah, I know how one feedback can be puffing...you might have to be the guinea pig. Hope others chime in...
