Plus back down to CE upgrade/downgrade path / migration (also what happens when Plus expires?)
-
As far as I know there's a path to upgrade from CE up to Plus, but there's no way of going back down, is that still correct with the latest version that just released?
Are there any plans to add that path? If it can be done one way I can't see why it wouldn't be possible to change it back.
Also what happens when the existing free Plus licenses expire?
- Are any router/firewall functions or capabilities changed or limited?
- Are configurations still editable? viewable? exportable?
- Are packages still upgradable?
- Obviously can't upgrade anymore, but if there's a path to go back to CE, could/would it appear here to "upgrade" to, even if this was added after the license expired?
-
@colinstu I'd like to know this too; the blog post says 'see documentation for how to downgrade' but I can't find it anywhere.
I think it is extremely poor how we being 'bait & switched' after being encouraged to upgrade to the free Plus edition and now it's suddenly no longer free.
Unless a clear downgrade option is added with a one click downgrade I'm pulling the plug and switching to Ubiquity router.
-
This will cost them so much market share, unless they make it super easy to downgrade.
-
@dongennl yeah if there's no official/built-in downgrade path then it's off to OPNsense for me. Was a good decade-long run.
-
@dongennl Well good luck making the switch to Ubiquity! I went in the other direction (Ubiquity to pfSense/Netgate) and am much happier. Simple things are much more difficult with Ubiquiti products, to say nothing about their opaque support processes.

2.7.1 and 23.09 share he same config version currently. So you can easily import the Plus config into CE if you need to.

@colinstu said in Plus back down to CE upgrade/downgrade path / migration (also what happens when Plus expires?):

23.09 = 23.2
2.7.1 = 23.1?That link looks out of date. On my systems running 23.09 and 2.7.1-RC the config revision is 23.3 for both.

I just ran into a headache/nightmare trying to downgrade. I was utilizing the AT&T bypass (WAN Connectivity with 802.1X Authentication Bridging and VLAN 0 PCP Tagging).
I also had a hard time using a backup to restore from... For whatever reason if I redid the basic configuration at least back to the LAN being my previous IP address AND THEN did the restore it worked. But I then had to troubleshoot why I didn't have WAN access which was due to the MAC spoofing needing to be undone...
Very inconvenient from the Plus license changes...
