i will install Ubuntu LTS on a machine and then owncloud software.

i want to use pfsense to lock the access to this Ubuntu machine from outside.
But i see that i cant install Ubuntu + pfsense because pfsense has its own OS

So maybe i have to have one machine with 2 NIC'S (for WAN AND LAN) and then on the LAN i put a switch to connect pfsense and Ubuntu machine

Yes, pfSense is a separate machine on the way in to your network. But you can run it as a VM along with other VMs on the same physical hardware, and have pfSense be the real front-end WAN and then talk to the other VMs in the back end (or out another ethernet or VLAN to more backend systems.

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."
