      Successfully built router and installed pfsense. The problem I have is that my old wifi router gui is no longer accessible so that I can configure it as an access point. It has the same default ip as the pfsense router. Since I reset it to factory settings, I need to chagne wifi settings on old router and can't at the moment. What can I do to solve this problem? Pfsense router works fine with default settings.

        @Beginner-0 You can plug a computer directly into the old router, and/or shut down pfSense temporarily.

        Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
        When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

          @SteveITS Thanks for your reply. I did disconnect the pfsense router and hooked up my old router to my computer without anything else and browser refused to connect when I entered default ip unfortunately. Perhaps I should have restarted my computer?

            @Beginner-0 Hard to say without more info on what subnet range is where. The PC and WiFi router need to be in the same subnet to communicate.

            What is the gateway on your PC then? That should be the router's IP...

              Commonly when I see that it's just the browser trying to load the pfSense index page which obviously doesn't exist at that IP when it's the old router.

              Try using a private browser window or a different browser.

                @Beginner-0 (& @SteveITS),

                Is your old router set up to hand out IP addresses? If not you may need to temporarily manually assign an IP address in the subnet range of the old router's address (gateway).

                  So it turned out that even under the leases section of the menu the old wifi router was listed as offline and inaccessible. I finally tried clearing my browser's history which did allow the browser to connect but there was a server error on the page. I then downloaded the new app that didn't exist when I bought the old router from Netgate back in 2015 and tried to use it to connect wirelessly to it after having reset it to factory settings. This was able to wake up the router I guess because I was able to access it through the browser finally, after having disconnected the pfsense router. I then set the old router to AP mode and it asked me to hook up the new pfsense router to the internet and then attach the new router to the old one and it worked. Thanks for everyone's help today. I really appreciate it. I guess I should have been using the dumb phone app for the old router a lot sooner but even a couple of months ago it was unnecessary. What a day lol
