      Hi,

Please do let me know to where I might post this issue if this group is not the right one.

We run a Netgate 1100 box. Disk capacity comes to 1.1GB used out of 1.4GB.

I logged in with a user id in the admin group to run but came upon a number of directories with Permission Denied:

      du -d 1 -h /
      1.1M /cf
      4.5K /dev
      512B /proc
      73K /root
      du: /var/crash: Permission denied
      du: /var/cron: Permission denied
      du: /var/account: Permission denied
      du: /var/audit: Permission denied
      du: /var/authpf: Permission denied
      du: /var/tmp/nginx/scgi_temp: Permission denied
      du: /var/tmp/nginx/fastcgi_temp: Permission denied
      du: /var/tmp/nginx/client_body_temp: Permission denied
      du: /var/tmp/nginx/uwsgi_temp: Permission denied
      du: /var/tmp/nginx/proxy_temp: Permission denied
      du: /var/heimdal: Permission denied
      du: /var/run/ppp: Permission denied
      du: /var/spool/dma: Permission denied
      du: /var/spool/opielocks: Permission denied
      du: /var/db/freebsd-update: Permission denied
      du: /var/db/hyperv: Permission denied
      du: /var/db/ipf: Permission denied
      du: /var/db/dhcpcd: Permission denied
      du: /var/db/entropy: Permission denied
      du: /var/backups: Permission denied
      184M /var
      16M /rescue
      111K /tmp
      5.0K /conf.default
      512B /mnt
      144M /boot
      113K /libexec
      12M /lib
      2.8M /sbin
      512B /media
      du: /usr/local/etc/swanctl/bliss: Permission denied
      du: /usr/local/etc/swanctl/pkcs12: Permission denied
      du: /usr/local/etc/swanctl/ecdsa: Permission denied
      du: /usr/local/etc/swanctl/pkcs8: Permission denied
      du: /usr/local/etc/swanctl/private: Permission denied
      du: /usr/local/etc/swanctl/rsa: Permission denied
      du: /usr/local/etc/ipsec.d/private: Permission denied
      930M /usr
      869K /bin
      33K /home
      512B /net
      du: /etc/ntp: Permission denied
      3.7M /etc
      1.3G /

The sudo package doesn't seem to have installed by the default setup process. The user id might not have sufficient privilege to install that either.

My speculation is those /var/temp subdirectories are taking up space over a number of pfSense upgrades but can't do much at this point.

Greatly appreciate any advice on how to proceed with this.

Thanks in advance for your help.

      Cheers,

@HingLaw The 1100 has 8 GB storage, it's probably this: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/troubleshooting/filesystem-shrink.html. Delete old Boot Environments...note the space listed in the GUI is wrong, like "32K" or something, just delete old ones and your disk will "become larger."

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, and device or disk speed.
