The NDI on the VM will be different so the Plus sub you had for the hardware is not valid there.

Same here in case of replacing the APU board by a newer one and restoring the backup file.... no Plus now !?

That's disappointing, I was planning on moving my pf install to another bare metal machine as the current has begun having issues.

I haven't had the time yet to try and "activate" the Plus upgrade, and wasn't planning to until the switch out was complete, knowing I can't may complicate matters..

Will the configuration backup from Plus load properly on community edition?

For me it was working without issues (latest CE version).

Might want to explore the several conversion utilities available on the interwebs. A fun(?) exercise anyway. And, yes, I use Bing!

Depends on version, see https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/backup/restore.html#backup-compatibility and the linked table.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

Got around this morning to contacting support about the change in NDI from the "repair".

Essentially told to pound sand with the Plus upgrade.. So I guess grandfathering in the Plus for homelab is not a thing anymore. :(

                        That's too bad.
