4200 vpn speed

1100 is awesome but speeds are too low for online gaming which will be my main usage. advertised speeds with vpn are 90mbps but i usually only ever receive 35 or lower.
was going to get the 6100 but now i am seeing the 4200 advertise over 1g for vpn connection which i would only need a quarter of that. can somebody please confirm this, thanks!

Yup the 4200 has great VPN speeds because the CPU supports AVX2 and VAES directly. Anything that can use it is fast, so OpenVPN DCO or IPSec.
I would expect more than 35Mbps from the 1100 though. What sort of VPN is that? How is it configured?

@stephenw10 could've sworn that 4200 advertise speeds were once 152mbps, did they make an improvement? would i be better off just purchasing the 4200 for my online gaming than the 6100? i am mainly just looking to get a steady connection of 150+

Over VPN? Going over a VPN will almost always add latency, generally bad for gaming.
Either system should have no problem at 150Mbps. The actual speeds achievable depend on a number of things but mainly the link latency and the VPN type. So it depends on how you're connecting and where you're connecting to.

Just to be clear I'm saying that given the 1100 only passes 35Mbps the restriction may be in the link and not the the encryption speeds in the firewall. In which case a faster firewall may not not help much.
We'd need to know more about the VPN you're using to speculate further.

@stephenw10 so you're saying there might be a problem with my third party expressvpn set up? i heard realistic speeds were 50 which i had on rare occasions

Well I would look at then CPU usage on the 1100 when you're testing throughput. If it's hitting 100% use on either CPU core then obviously something faster will help.
But, assuming you're using OpenVPN, there is probably improvement to be made. You have to use an encryption type the 1100 can accelerate for example.
