I have an older ThinkCentre with an onboard Broadcom NetXtreme 1gb NIC and a second Intel 100mb NIC.  I can install an older 2.0.1 version of pfsense fine, but when I upgrade or install version 2.3, during the boot up, the system hangs every time when detecting the NetExtreme card. I have searched the forum and see that a number of people have issues with the NetXtreme cards and have tried editing the /boot/loader.conf.local file suggested in http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Tuning_and_Troubleshooting_Network_Cards but that did not work for me.  A mystery to me why an older version of pfsense works but a newer version will not.  Are the NetXtreme NIC's just plain incompatible with pfsense?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
