      Presently running ISC DHCP server and all is well. When I switch to the Kea, client hostnames stop being automatically added to the unbound DNS server for local name resolutions like it does under ISC. What am I missing?

          Ah, ok thanks. Hadn't seen that. Kea will then be useless for me in its current form.

            Is work in progress to remedy these shortcomings? I certainly need local host names automatically added to the DNS tables by the DHCP server, as well as custom DHCP options.

              @jcyr https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/2-7-1.html#kea-dhcp-server-feature-preview-now-available
              “Netgate developers have started the migration to Kea DHCP server from ISC as a replacement for ISC DHCPD for IPv4 and IPv6 DHCP service. Basic functionality is present, but not all features are supported at this time.”

              Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
              When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, and device or disk speed.
