Netgate hardware for latest Verizon ONTs?
-
Hi, newbie here. I'm interested in replacing my Verizon FiOS router with a Netgate appliance box. I want something that will work with the 2Gbps service they are rolling out (not yet available in my area, but I hope soon). According to what I've been reading, the ONTs they're using for that service have 10G/1G RJ45 ports, so a 10G WAN port is essential. I thought that a Netgate 6100 would fill the bill using its SFP+ ports, until I read in the product manual that:
"The built-in SFP interfaces on C3000 systems do not support modules utilizing copper Ethernet connectors (RJ45). As such, copper SFP/SFP+ modules are not supported on this platform."
Uh, what? Is that true (and if so, how can Netgate claim that this is SFP-spec-compliant hardware)? If it is true, does Netgate sell any hardware that would actually work for this?

Specifically something that can connect to a 10Gbase-T port?
Not an Nbase-T port, so a 2.5G link will not work there?
We have seen some SFP/RJ-45 modules that do work but we can't guaranty that because the C3K SoC does not claim to support them.
There are a few threads here though detailing modules others have had success with. Otherwise an external media converter would work here.Steve

Right, as far as I can tell from the available info it will do 1G or 10G and nothing in between.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification.
