Unable to retrieve package information
-
Dear all, I am having difficulty restoring a client's pfsense. The question is as follows: I have the XML file from the backup and restored it without any problems, but now I need to reinstall the packages manually: squid, squidguard and squidlite, in this pfsense we use a non-transparent proxy. When I go to download these packages the system is giving the following error: Unable to retrieve package information.
And I can't download it, the pfSense version is 2.7.0 .
If anyone can help me. -

he pfSense version is 2.7.0 .
Before installing packages, install (upgrade) pfSense to the latest release, 2.7.2.
To make a long story short : packages are maintained and buid against the latest version. Software libraries and kernel could be upgraded, and a recent (s)package might fail on an older pfSEnse version.
A bit like : don't install Windows 11 software on a windows 10 system.I get it, your pfSense isn't telling you that 2.7.2 exists.
You'll find tips here, handling the same issue : Home > pfSense > Software > Problems Installing or Upgrading pfSense SoftwareOr get a copy of 2.7.2 and install 'clean'.

@fabianoantoniogmail-com don’t install or upgrade packages without setting the correct branch.
Since you’re on 2.7.0 see https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/2-7-1.html#troubleshooting

Hi Gertjan, thanks for getting back to us. So I updated to the latest version 2.7.2 as suggested and reinstalled all the additional packages I had in version 2.7.0 but the squid service doesn't go up at all, is there anything I can do?

Sorry, squid is still part of the "I'll have a look at squid as soon as I have a coupe of months spare time and really nothing else to do ..."

If you install 2.7.2 clean and then restore the config file it should pull in the packages and start them with the same configuration they had.
