Google Analytics - Use by pfSense?
-
@Gertjan
I'm not sure that answers my question about pfSense coding.️

@RobbieTT When you say 'pfSense", do you mean the product or website?

@RobbieTT said in Google Analytics - Use by pfSense?:
Why does the code for pfSense include references to Google Analytics, Yandex etc?

Because not only ordinarily people but developers in democratic countries STILL NOT BELIEVE that russia+China EACH DAY preparing to fighting in war with ALL DEMOCRATIC WORLD.
And 2 oceans not guarding You from cyberattacks. -
Because there are a lot of contributors to pfSense from russia. (But You never have a guarantee that KGB/FSB not making pressure on their family members to PUSH THEM DOING WHAT FSB/KGB WANT.)
So in this certain case a lot of firewalls (hey, Netgate, You say pfSense used in US army, military and critical infrastructure? What your clients say on that?) help FSB/KGB collecting info about:
- where the firewall installed (and also script able to collect a lot of other info, even transferring files);
- which person the firewall associated with (later find person by big data and AI) and target person for future;
You giving all needed information directly to KGB/FSB. But You not understanding how this is dangerous.
I give You 101% that 2-4 persons from FSB/GRU constantly 24/7/365 monitoring this (and other forums of firewalling software) to collect information about what/where/how installed on a critical infrastructure in US.
But You believe in this ONLY after something bigger than Colonel Pipe outage happened EXACTLY WITH YOU.
UPDATE
One example of scheme how KGB/FSB incorporate developers in western companiesUPDATE1
How Kaspersky Lab antivirus company working together with KGB/FSB.You may remember that Trump initiate the procedure of deleting Kaspersky products from ALL government structures….
For IT-society in ex-USSR countries well known that Kaspersky = KGB/FSB.
UPDATE2
How Yandex (and its sub-companies) co-working with KGB/FSB.Most of all of that articles and investigations are OUT OF PUBLIC ATTENTION in US and Europe.
And this is BIGGEST MISTAKE.

It's in the pfSense firmware code.
I'm not sure if it is there to protect the firewall from such tools or to provide data to such tools.
I'm hoping for the former, rather than finding that my firewall software itself would like to reach-out to these places. I genuinely don't know - hence the question.

Hi Sergei, would you mind not spamming my thread please. Russia is bad, I get it, but this is a general pfSense question.
I'd be really grateful if you would self-delete your posts too.

pfSense : located it : /usr/local/www/vendor/jquery-treegrid/index.html
Not quiet followed the KGB/FSB relation here.
You forgot that in 90% of situation You open pfSense forum page on the same machine where You open pfSense WebGUI;)
But more important are WHO PLACE THAT CODE HERE?
Why it is possible that some piece of code from most aggressive country in a world nowadays come to “one of the popular firewall solution that used in army and government in USA” ??? -
@Gertjan "/usr/local/www/vendor/jquery-treegrid/index.html" is sort of its own answer.
That's the documentation for the jquery-treegrid component: https://github.com/maxazan/jquery-treegrid/blob/master/docs/index.htmlThat probably shouldn't be part of the build, but mostly only for size reasons. It's also not actually harmful in any way.

Thanks for the reassurance. Is there anything inside of the pfSense firmware that would make callouts to any 3rd party analytics?

TreeGrid plugin for jQuery
See more information at http://maxazan.github.io/jquery-treegrid
@stephenw10
Is the jQuery used for the abc backup when it enabled and sends your configuration file to the cloud with Plus? You know how it has to also check what’s stored there also? -
@RobbieTT said in Google Analytics - Use by pfSense?:

As far as I know there's not, but it's a bit outside of my area of expertise.

Note that it was removed as unnecessary: https://github.com/pfsense/pfsense/commit/4e8f6cedd9c4b32b24ac3619f84e33a9a4708a29

Two weeks ago, if I am reading that correctly? If so this is a change in the upcoming 24.03?
Good to know it's being tidied-up.

@stephenw10 Can I safely delete this in my 23.05.01 BE? This is the only version that supports my Crypto chip for offloading with OpenVPN. The new one won't run it.

You should be able to remove those unneeded files, yes.
