1000/1000 - Router hardware (First world problems)
-
Hey everyone - new here, long time PFSense user. I was recently upgraded to 1000/1000 FiOS and need a router with more power to handle traffic. Currently getting about 500 ~ 600 both ways off my Asus router. I use a VPN for work and would like some overhead so CPU/NIC's arent a bottleneck.
I was looking at the SG-2340, any opinions on this handling 1000/1000 withs some overhead to spare?

Or am I better off withs something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Jetway-JBC320U93W-2930-B-Intel-Celeron-Fanless/dp/B00SHYW6US/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494553801&sr=8-1&keywords=JBC320U93

I would pick something up from the pfSense store or Netgate. Rumor is the project gets a bit more money if you use https://store.pfsense.org/systems/
I just picked up a 4860 after my old Netgate APU couldn't keep up with my new Cox Gigablast. I'm able to get about 700mbps via iperf.he.net and I'm thinking the bottleneck is not my hardware. Most of my stuff is wireless so I haven't been able to do much more testing than what the iperf package in pfsense can provide, though I'm sure I would see nearly wire speed throughput.

Not a rumor :) the pfSense project is funded with appliance sales, support subscriptions and Gold subscriptions. Netgate is the company behind the pfSense project. All pfSense developers work at Netgate.
