Hmm, interesting. It pretty much 'just worked' for me so I've never really had to dig too deeply into it.

      Any other opinions on this?

@stephenw10 my experience with NUT is similar: it's typically just worked. However I'm a longtime subscriber to the NUT mailing lists and much of the traffic there is the oddball cases that don't work. Each one ends up being a bit of a rabbit hole especially if the UPS isn't on the tested list. Reading through the pfsense NUT thread shows a bunch of the oddball cases but all munged together in a single thread. I can imagine it would be much easier to read/follow if there was a sub-forum and multiple conversation threads.

This is a reasonable evaluation. For the vast majority of folk, it just works, myself included. However, when it doesn't, it's often quite a bit of back and forth.

The prior 2.8.0 and below thread is over 1200 posts. The current 2.8.1 and above thread is already over 300 posts. That's a lot. A subforum would be helpful, particularly when there are multiple conversations going simultaneously.

@stephenw10 Obviously the lenght of the threads says it all, but really - if you have a couple of hours, read them through.
You’ll notice that not only is there a lot of different “rabbit hole” troubleshooting conversations, but also a lot of simpler questions on how to finetune certain settings or setup multihost protection in different scenarios.
Those simple conversations gets completely lost, and the valuable knowledge they relay is lost on the rest of us - because we cannot fint it/never stumble upon it.

I really think a subthread is warranted here.

Edit: Make that a that a full day - that’s how long t takes to read them through.

Love the no fuss of using the official appliances :-)

I don't use NUT so take this with a grain of salt, but I've often wondered why people don't just create new threads for their issues, in the Packages forum...? (from Netgate's POV there are only two recent threads for it...)

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.
              Upvote 👍 helpful posts!

Never underestimate the urge to post in an active thread. Even when it has nothing to do with what's being posted! 🙄

But, yes, I would expect to find separate posts in the general packages category.

@stephenw10 I’m not arguing, But it could be called counterintuitive that most “wellused” packages have subforums and separate threads - so in fear of their post will loose visibilty, People post in the active Thread.

Yeah I see no harm in adding one.

@stephenw10 and considering there is FAR more activity in the NUT threads than on most specifik package subforums, it would make a lot of sense

Hmm should we include apcupsd in that category? UPS Tools maybe?

                          In my opinion, yes.
