pfSense+ on WatchGuard M270 - same NDI on all boxes
-
Hi, after testing for a while a Firebox M270 we decided to go in production with 2 of these box in HA. While I managed to buy the licenses I noted that both NDI are the same. Is there a way to re-generate a proper unique NDI in order to properly license them?

Just some thoughts :
If some one knew how the NDI was created (see Netgate Device ID (NDI)) you would have your answer right away, as it would be documented. Guess what, AFAIK : it isn't - for 'reasons ^^'.
( adding a NIC or USB NIC will change the NDI ... but when you remove it, it will change again / go back )I guess your Firebox M270 have the same disks, ram, processor, BIOS info etc etc. That would explain : same NDI.
What will be different is : the interfaces MAC addresses of all interfaces, to name one, so maybe this info isn't used ?What might do the trick : change one of the drives ?

Oh that's interesting. Yeah the M270 is kinda special in a few ways! Can you send me the NDI in chat and I'll check it.

Thanks all for the quick reply. Yes, the M270 is quite interesting. It shows the same MACs for ix0 and ix1 on all devices I have here (three).
For the first one I asked for an evaluation registration and now we need to put the other two (HA) in production.
Here is the issue: how to buy these two licenses having the same NDI in all 3.
P.S.: Just for info, as a side effect of having the same MAC for ix0 and ix1 on all devices I had to ovverride in the GUI the default MAC in order to properly handle the L2 traffic on real Ports 0..7. -
Yup, that's a problem. Interestingly it clearly isn't the same as the one I have though as I was able to register that separately. The one I have does not have the same MAC on ix0 and ix1. Neither is a WatchGuard MAC though.
Can you send me the NDI and ifconfig output in chat?
