Cannot clean install 23.09.1

When upgrading from the GUI, my SG-1100 no longer would boot. I asked tech support for a new image but the install fails:
This will install the standard firmware and will erase all the existing contents of the destination device permanently. eMMC device: mmcsd0 Select the file system to install (UFS/ZFS) or press the Enter key to install wi th ZFS: ZFS Selected eMMC device: mmcsd0 - ZFS Are you sure you want to continue ? Has anyone been successful with this? I'm also speaking with tech support.
Thanks,

Lev and Chris from tech support were great.
The errors above indicate flash memory failure on the SG-1100.
Bummer, lasted about 5 years.

@ddbnj Not that I want to second guess TAC but did you try a different USB stick? Can’t hurt at this point.

@ddbnj said in Cannot clean install 23.09.1:
(da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): READ(10). CDB: 28 00 00 21 74 91 00 00 80 00
(da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): CAM status: CCB request completed with an error
(da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): Retrying command, 3 more tries remainYup, that error is in reading the USB drive not the eMMC. If you have not already I'd first try the other USB port and if it still fails try a different USB stick.

That was TAC's first thought too. I opened up a brand new 32GB sandisk and did the whole procedure again, twice actually. Failed at the same point. Tried again with UFS instead of ZFS, and that failed too.
I did use the same port every time. The other port had a symbol on it I didn't recognize so I avoided it. That's the last thing I can think of.
-
Ah, try the other port then. One port is USB3 and the other is USB2. Any drive should work in either port but I've seen fast drives work better when forced to run slowly in the USB2 port or example.
-
I can't believe it! I pulled the SG-1100 out of the e-waste bin and tried the other port and it worked!
Honestly shocked. I didn't think a port would fail so late in the process. Maybe some weird USB2/3 compatibility issue.
Thank you.
