I am working to chase down a different issue and had to re-install pfsense. I did both a clean install of 2.7.0 and 2.7.2 with a config file on the USB to be restored after install. The install completes successfully and boots everything with the proper config. If I try to reboot the hardware (either physical power button or reboot command) the system will not properly boot. It will show the kernel load and some initial pfsense output but will eventually go into a loop showing a repeating error message on the screen of "Exceeded input buffer". The last time I saw this I did see that right before the message it was on a ZFS step. Is this a problem with ZFS? My config? or the hardware? I have been running the hardware smoothly for a number of years. It is a Supermicro 1U Server X10SLH-N6 E3-1231v3

Can you get a screenshot of the loop? Serail console log?

@oggsct Does it work without the config restore?

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

I cannot seem to duplicate this now. I am beginning to think it was an issue with 2.6.0 upgrading to 2.7.2. Since I clean installed 2.7.2 and then restored from the admin page, it seems to reboot fine. I have since gone to 23.09.1 and have done a few reboots to test. I should have grabbed a video or picture sooner.

It could well have ended up with a newer boot loader when starting from 2.7.2. That could explain the difference.

Possibly as I think most times I saw it I had restored from 2.6.x clean install restore and then upgraded. It is certainly an odd error as searching for it exactly yields few results. If it reoccurs I will come back here with a video or screenshot.
