Two DHCP servers
-
I'd like to install a second DHCP server for test purposes. Is there any way to tell pfSense to ignore dhcp requests from certain macs?
If not how should I go about testing the second server?

What is the point of the 2nd server? Are you wanting to setup failover for dhcp or something?
If your wanting to test a different dhcp server, best would be to put it on a different layer 2.
You could check the "Only the clients defined below will get DHCP leases from this server." But in that case you would need to have reservations setup for all your clients..
But sure you can deny specific clients based on mac in the mac control section of the dhcp server

Thanks for your advice. I wouldn't have noticed MAC address control if you hadn't pointed it out.
The reason for a second DHCP server is to set up and test a backup PXE server.

Why not simply use the pfsense DHCP to point relevant clients at the PXE server ?

Is there an option to direct clients a particular TFTP server based on MAC address?
Or even to use a different bootfile depending on the client…
I believe that DHCP options 66 and 67 can direct clients in various paths, but have never set these up, and I don't know if this can be done in pfSense.

You can add specific DHCP options using the 'Additional BOOTP/DHCP Options' in the DHCP config page (Services/DHCP Server/LAN).
To specify TFTP servers by MAC addresses you can create a static mapping for that MAC in DHCP and use the Advanced field in the TFTP heading.
